Sprucing up Sitka

The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is seeking volunteers to lend a hand at the Fall Spruce Up Day, which will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The rain-or-shine event will see volunteers join staff members to carry out light exterior and interior maintenance to keep the secluded campus beautiful.

The list of short tasks includes gardening, cleaning outdoor tables, removing cobwebs, weeding, raking, cleaning windows, sweeping, taking down the courtyard sun-shades, cleaning and storing the outdoor tables and chairs and general preparation of the campus for the winter wind and rain.

Volunteers can drop in any time from 9 am to 3 pm and stay as long as they like. Any amount of time is greatly appreciated.

Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing; comfortable, closed-toed shoes and a pair of work gloves. Also, bring your favorite gardening tool; leaf rakes will be particularly welcome.

The center will be providing a pizza lunch. To attend, RSVP to info@sitkacenter.org or 541-994-5485 no later than Tuesday, Sept. 24.
