The Beaver State will take center stage at the Lincoln City Flower Show this weekend as the event marks its 36th year with a celebration of “Oregon My Oregon.”
The show, hosted by members of the Depoe Bay, Ocean Spray and Salmon River garden clubs in cooperation with the Lincoln City Recreation Department, is open to entries of horticulture, floral design and garden crafts from people of all ages and abilities.
Entries will be accepted from 7:30 to 9:45 am on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the meeting room of the Lincoln City Community Center. The room will then be closed until 1 pm for judging by a panel of three judges from outside the area, followed by the placement of ribbons and awards.
Horticulture of all kinds, including cut flowers and potted plants, plus edibles and herbs, will be exhibited and judged on quality. Designs, in classes with Oregon themes, may include any plant materials legally obtained and are judged on their artistic merit. In addition, there will be photos by gardeners and a variety of other interesting and educational exhibits displayed.
Design themes suggest images of Oregon, and include Clear Blue Skies, Tide Pools, The Oregon Desert and Country Backroads among others. Categories also include a floral design in a teacup, or in a teapot, and hats decorated with plant materials. Miniature gardens, terrariums and scenes make up another class.
Kids of all ages are encouraged to exhibit their garden hobbies with cut flowers, potted plants, flower arrangements and any craft involving plant materials.
A schedule brochure with themes, classes and exhibiting information is available at the community center desk. For more information, contact Karen Brown at 541-994-2953 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The free show will be open for everyone to enjoy from 1 to 5 pm on Saturday, Aug. 11, and noon to 3 pm on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the community center, 2150 NE Oar Place.
