The Newport Community Drum Circle will join forces with the Oregon Coast Community Forest Association this Saturday, April 20, to celebrate Earth Day at Big Creek Park and Newport’s new Forest Park.

The family-oriented rhythmical celebration will run from 1 to 3 pm, rain or shine, in the covered Big Creek Park picnic pavilion, featuring multi-cultural traditional percussion with Chandler Davis and the Thunder & Lightness Ensemble and a special all-ages Earth Day Drum Circle.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome. No musical experience is required, bring your own drum or borrow one of theirs; and bring a folding chair if you have one.

The Oregon Coast Community Forest Association has worked with the City of Newport to rezone and rededicate the more than 80 acres of spruce forest that was renamed in 2012 as Forest Park. The new park is adjacent to Big Creek Park and the association is continuing to work with the city and the school district to preserve the forest and utilize it for environmentally-focused educational and recreational programs.

Big Creek Park is fully accessible and has open grassy areas, parking, playground equipment, picnic tables, two BBQ grills and extensive hiking trails in the adjacent forest.

The park is located at 2510 NE Big Creek Road, in north Newport. For more information, email chandler@chandlerdavis.com or call 541-272-4615 or contact Don Andre at ghengisdon@gmail.com or 541-961-1607.
