The Sweet Adelines a capella group is issuing an open invitation to women aged 14 to 90 from throughout Lincoln County to turn up and sing out.

The chorus is a part of the international Sweet Adelines organization, which provides education and training. Chorus Director Paula Dahl said women joining the group will get vocal instruction and lots of help with breathing to make a pretty sound.

“I like having new people,” she said, “and want to assure them that they do not need to read notes because we provide learning tapes.”

The chorus performs in the community and participates in the annual convention in Reno with two songs every three years. Dahl said members enjoy the sisterhood of the group and the great learning that is given by professionals who visit the chorus.

“Anyone who sang as a teen has a chance to warm up her vocal chords and re-ignite the endorphins that come from singing,” she said.

The group meets at 6:30 pm on Thursday evenings at the American Legion, 424 W Olive Street, Newport.
