Well-known Native American flute player Mary-Beth Nickel is the musical guest for the Saturday, Aug. 10, installment of the Nye Beach Summer Celebration in Newport.

The show will run from noon to 3 pm, rain or shine, on the big outdoor theater stage in the courtyard at Café Mundo.

Nickel joins the Thunder & Lightness World Beat Ensemble featuring traditional and indigenous rhythm and song with the Newport Drum Circle’s Chandler Davis, the Ocean Thunder Drummers and special guests. The celebration continues through September.

With the atmosphere of a neighborhood block party, the family friendly all-community event welcomes all ages. Dancing is encouraged, and light percussion is available for those who want to join in (lightly) from the audience. There is ample outdoor seating (some covered) and indoor or outdoor menu service is available.

Café Mundo is located at 209 NW Coast Street in the heart of Newport’s Historic Nye Beach district. For more information about the performance, call 541-272-4615 or email chandler@chandlerdavis.com.
