Shannon Rose, community engagement coordinator for Linn, Benton and Lincoln Counties, will be at the Newport 60+ Activity Center on Thursday, June 27, to answer questions about the 211info service.

This nonprofit service helps connect people with resources in their community by listening to their needs and offering a list of appropriate resources, drawn from a health and social services database continually updated with information from partner organizations.

Rose helps ensure that 211info has a robust presence and works within local communities, connecting with non-profits and governmental agencies, giving educational presentations and attending local meetings and events.

211info began in the Portland area during the early 2000s and has since expanded to serve all of Oregon and four counties in Southwest Washington. Reach them by dialing 211, texting your zip code to 898211, emailing help@211info.org, downloading the 211info mobile app or searching the database at 211info.org.

During the first five months of 2019, Lincoln County had 940 contacts with 1,521 needs identified. The most requested were for housing, followed by food and utility assistance. Specialty programs include child care referrals, a 24/7 foster parent support line, and maternal and child health referrals.

The June 27 presentation will run from 2 to 3 pm at 20 SE 2nd Street. To register, go to newportoregon.gov/dept/par/sc or call 541-265-9617.
