To some, indoor kite flying might sound like the stuff of April Fool’s. But true kite aficionados know the only foolish thing would be to miss this unlikely but spellbinding spectacle as it returns to Lincoln City this weekend.
Presented by Soaring on Solutions, the Indoor Kite Competition Gala will see kites take aloft in the gymnasium of Taft High School without the aid of fans and guided solely by the skill of their flyers.
The two-day showcase is the first American Kitefliers Association competition to take place in Lincoln City in more than seven years. It offers guests the chance to try their hand at kite making as well as coaxing their creations into flight under the expert direction of indoor kite-flying veterans.
From 10:30 am to 2 pm on Saturday, a Kite Pit Party will offer guests the chance to chat with professional kite fliers as well as try out face-painting, crafts and more.
Throughout the event, various community organizations will be on hand to share details of the services they provide. Groups represented will include Family Promise of Lincoln County, My Sisters’ Place and Lincoln City Police Department.
Entry is by donation at the door, with proceeds going to Northwest Coastal Housing, which works to provide housing for the homeless, domestic violence victims, seniors, people with mental illness, families and many more.
