A pair of workshops will offer insight into the implications of changing federal flood maps this Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Newport, with insurance agents and other interested parties invited to attend.

Lincoln County, Waldport, Yachats, Toledo, Newport, Depoe Bay, Siletz and Lincoln City have new FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps that will take effect on October 18, a change that might affect property owners’ need for flood insurance as well as the rates charged.

Scott Van Hoff, senior flood insurance specialist for FEMA Region X, will present information on the National Flood Insurance Program.

The workshops, held in the Council Chambers at Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Hwy., will run from 9 to 11 am, repeated from 1 to 3 pm. There will be an informal, drop-in question-and-answer session from 11 am to noon.
