In the wake of Newport City Council’s decision to ban single-use carry-out grocery bags, the Newport Chapter of Surfrider Foundation is hosting a screening of “Bag It,” a documentary that explores the problems with plastic.

This touching and often flat-out-funny film follows everyman Jeb Berrier as he embarks on a global tour to unravel the complexities of a plastic world. What starts as a film about plastic bags evolves into a wholesale investigation into plastic and its effect on waterways, oceans and even the human body itself. The film lays out the problems of a plastic world as well as solutions that everyone can start putting in to action right away.

The first showing of “Bag It” will take place on Tuesday, May 7, at 6 pm at Rogue Brewer’s on the Bay, 2320 SE Marine Science Drive. Drinks will be discounted.
