Worth dressing up for

World-class opera will return to the Oregon Coast this Saturday, Nov. 18, when “The Exterminating Angel,” graces the big screen at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

This latest offering from The Met: Live in HD is the American premier for the opera, written by Thomas Adès and inspired by the classic Luis Buñuel film of the same name.

Hailed by the New York Times as “inventive and audacious,” the production is a surreal fantasy about a dinner party from which the guests can’t escape.

Tom Cairns, who wrote the libretto, directs the new production while Adès conducts.

The screening will run from 10 am to 12:30 pm, with one intermission, at 777 W. Olive Street.

Tickets, $21 for adults, $18 for seniors and $10 for students, are available at the box office or by calling 541-265-2787.
