The Newport Youth Symphony on the Oregon Coast will present its free Spring Concert on Monday, April 29, showcasing enthusiastic students playing music from beginner to advanced skill levels.

The concert will open with a performance by Family Strings, made up of students from 3rd through 6th grade, showing their skills with beginning tunes including “Twinkle Variations.” Family Strings leaders are Mindy Simon, Adrienne Welsh and Philip Grabenhorst.

Next, the Overture Strings, led by Barbara Wilcox, will perform the “Bourée” from G.F. Handel’s “Water Music,” and the “Millionaire’s Hoedown!” by H. Clebanoff. The youth symphony, conducted by Kathy Follett, will then join the Overture Strings for performances of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and “Andante Festivo” by J. Sibelius.

The symphony’s seasoned students and young-at-heart adults will finish the program with the dramatic first movement of Beethoven’s 1st Symphony.

This concert, which is free and open to all, starts at 7 pm at Newport First Presbyterian Church, 227 NE 12th Street.
