The classic story of Pinnochio will take to the stage with a twist on Friday, May 24, as Newport’s Pacific Dance Ensemble raises the curtain on its latest production, “PiNOCCHiA.”
Director Nancy Mittleman has reinvented Collodi’s tale of the wooden puppet who wanted to be a real boy into a fun adventure that follows Pinocchia as she strives to change her wild ways and become a real girl.
Dancers from the Pacific Dance Ensemble will be joined by members of the Newport School of Artistic Movement to bring the tale to life. The show is narrated by veteran actors Shawn and Khloella Brateng, with special effects and lighting by Ernest Brown.
The production delivers a heartfelt message for young and old alike, that if you are truthful and take care of your family and friends, you will find contentment and happiness.
“PiNOCCHiA” opens on Friday, May 24, with a performance at 7 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center, 777 W Olive Street. The run will continue through Sunday, June 2, with performances at 7 pm every Friday and Saturday and 2 pm matinées each Sunday.
Tickets, $15 for adults or $10 for students and seniors, plus ticketing fees, are available at the box office or online at www.coastarts.org.
