Saddle up for ‘Chaps’

A scene from "Chaps" at Seattle's Taproot Theatre

Yachats-based One of Us Productions is holding auditions for its upcoming show, the cross-cultural musical comedy “Chaps.”

Written by Johanna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner, “Chaps” is set in 1944 as the BBC prepares to welcome a group of America’s singing cowboys.

Director Carl Foster Miller is looking for five males and one female to fill roles ranging from the vivacious Singing Cowboys tour manager to the guitar-playing Cockney sound engineer to the imperious snob of a BBC announcer.

Auditions will take place at 7 pm on Friday, Dec. 7; and again on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Yachats Commons, 441 Hwy. 101 N.

Participants with a theater resume should bring it along, and everyone should come prepared to sing.

Rehearsals will start in early January, with performances scheduled for the first three weekends in March 2019. The show’s musical director is Milo Graamans.

One of Us Productions is also looking for behind-the-scenes help in areas including lighting, sound, publicity, props, costumes and set construction.
