“Nearly Natural,” is the perfect title for the next Pedestal Spotlight Show, which will feature works by mixed media artist A.T. Ronan.
The show, in the Yaquina Art Association Gallery through Friday, June 28, features art Ronan has created using tree bark and roots, driftwood, rocks, shells, wooden beads, dried flowers and live plants.
“I hope to give people the chance to explore their own creativity by viewing my pieces and seeing what they see in them,” Ronan said. “Not just what I see.”
Ronan’s unique process includes engraving, carving, sanding, wood burning, painting, staining and beading. She also preserves moss and plants and uses found objects to embellish her designs.
The Ronan family, which includes A.T.’s husband Ed and their cats, moved to Newport in 1990. A.T. has been exploring her creativity since retiring from Oregon Coast Community College in 2013. Her prior formal education was in the graphic arts where she learning the basics of typography and composition and the importance of movement in a design.
The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Nye Beach, open daily from 11 am to 5 pm.
