George Winston

Pianist George Winston will return to Newport this Friday, Sept. 6, for a one-night performance benefiting the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Winston has inspired fans and musicians alike with his singular solo acoustic piano songs for more than 40 years, playing nearly 100 concerts annually and selling 15 million albums to date.

Winston’s music is evocative, offering listeners the chance to take a step back from their busy lives and let their minds wander. His 15th album, “Restless Wind,” released in May, is a portrayal of Winston’s place in a chaotic world.

His classic albums, “Autumn” and “December,” are perennial favorites, along with “Winter into Spring,” “Summer” and “Spring Carousel.” Other Winston albums include two volumes of the compositions of Vince Guaraldi, two volumes of benefit albums for the Gulf Coast disasters and six other solo piano albums.

Winston’s appearance in Newport is a fund-raiser evening benefiting the Entertain the Future! Capital Campaign to expand and enhance the Newport Performing Arts Center.

The concert will start at 7:30 pm at the center, located at 777 W Olive Street.

Tickets, $50 for preferred seating or $45 for general admission, are available by calling 541-265-2787 or online at www.coastarts.org.

Winston has requested that all audience members also bring a donation of non-perishable items for the Lincoln County Food Bank.
