A working replica of a Baroque theater will provide the backdrop for world-class opera this Saturday, Feb. 16, as Newport Performing Arts Center hosts a screening of “Adriana Lecouvreur.”

The performance is presented by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts as part of the 13th season of The Met: Live in HD.

Anna Netrebko sings the role of Lecouvreur, a great 18th-Century actress who is in love with the military hero Maurizio, sung by tenor Piotr Beczała. Gianandrea Noseda conducts Cilea’s tragedy, in a new staging by Sir David McVicar.

The cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as the Princess of Bouillon, Adriana’s rival for Maurizio’s affections, and baritone Ambrogio Maestri as Michonnet.

The screening, hosted by Susan Knowlton and Don Bourque, will start at 10 am and run for three hours and 35 minutes with two intermissions.

The Newport Performing Arts Center is located at 777 W Olive Street.

Tickets, $21 for adults, $18 for seniors and $10 for students, are available by calling 541-265-2787 or online at coastarts.org.
