Works by members of the Coastal Arts Guild will be on display at the Newport Visual Arts Center in a new exhibit called “Creative Life Expressions.”

The show opens with a public reception from 5 to 7 pm this Friday, Oct. 4, featuring a talk from the artists at 6:30 pm.

Chaired by Dian Swendsen, with support from committee member Bonnie Powell, the exhibit provides the Newport community and Lincoln County an opportunity to look inside the creative lives of Coastal Arts Guild members.

“Many members not only enjoy volunteering for the Visual Arts Center but also engage in their own art making, using a range of media,” Swendsen said.

Powell, a former arts teacher in Lincoln County, is a longtime painter who focuses on seascapes.

“There is a real sense of the imagery of the sea as I’m painting — I am so drawn to it,” she said. “The movement of rising and falling waves intrigues me. One of my goals is to express that rolling blue green image so that the viewer is drawn into the emotion of the ocean. Relating that inspirational image is my goal as an artist.”

“Creative Life Expressions” runs through Saturday, Oct. 26, available to view from noon to 4 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays in the Upstairs Gallery of the center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive.
