The Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre and Center for the Arts in Toledo will host a family volunteer workday this Saturday, March 23.

Guests at the event will get to learn about mosaic and tile design as well as trying their hand at laying some tiles themselves, re-doing the ceramic design in the bathrooms at the center building.

Participants should wear work clothes and bring work gloves if available. The workday will run from 10 am to 4 pm at The Olalla Center, located in the old Mary Harrison Elementary School at 321 SE 3rd Street.

The activities will continue on Wednesday, April 3, when the Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre and Center for the Arts hosts a painting party at Toledo Public Library. The family-friendly event will run from 2 to 4 pm at {span class=”LrzXr”}173 NW 7th St{/span}reet. To reserve a spot, call 541-336-3132.

And on Friday, April 5, the group will hold an orientation meeting at the Flowerree Community Center for a new workshop, “The Toy Theatre Project,” a pilot program for what will become a statewide touring program. Toy theater is a Victorian art form using paper animation, scenic design, theater techniques, movement to music, character development and general theater-production work. The workshops will be divided into two age groups — 5th to 8th grade and 9th to 12th grade. At the end of the workshops, students will film their work for their portfolios, giving them the chance to train in theater, animation and video production. The orientation meeting will run from 5 to 6 pm at the Flowerree Community Center, located in the old Mary Harrison Elementary School at 321 SE 3rd Street. To register for the project, drop by the session or e-mail Artistic Director Lawrence Adrian at oregoncoastchildrenstheatre@gmail.com.
