“Girls Are Strong,” a tribute to Chatelain’s mother, Merry Lou Foster Shaw, who fought tirelessly for the Equal Rights Amendment.

Works by internationally acclaimed quilter Hollis Chatelain will be on show in Yachats this weekend as Polly Plumb Productions presents “Art Quilt Melange.”

Regarded as a rock star of the art quilting world, Chatelain employs a dynamic and characteristic style, marked by dreamlike imagery, elaborate use of color and intricate thread detail. She creates unique compositions that address challenging social, environmental and political themes. Her work is found in public and private collections around the world.

“Thread is my passion,” she said. “My large pieces have as much as 25,000 yards and over 200 different colors of thread in them.”

The show will feature 20 pieces, ranging in size from two feet square to eight feet by six.

“Art Quilt Melange” will be available to view from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, at the Yachats Commons, 441 N. Hwy. 101. Admission is by suggested donation of $7.

Afternoon tea service will be available, with beverages and delicacies on offer from noon till 3 pm both days.
