Christmas: some ensemble-y required

The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will present its sixth annual Holiday Concert this Saturday, Dec. 8, in Yachats, performing carol medleys, tunes from Christmas movies, sing-alongs and more.

The group will perform under the baton of new conductor, Jerry Lees, who brings a wealth of experience and energy, having played in jazz combos, orchestras and pits for a number of years in Southern California.

The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble is composed of about 35 professional and amateur musicians from the Central Oregon Coast. No auditions are required to join the band. Rehearsals are Monday nights during the school year, alternately in Waldport and Florence. For more information, go to

Saturday’s concert will start at 2 pm at the Yachats Commons, 441 Hwy. 101 N. Admission is free but a donation of $5 per person or $10 per family is suggested, with proceeds benefiting South Lincoln Resources. Non-perishable food items will also be collected for the Yachats Food Pantry.

Refreshments will be available at intermission, as well as baked items for sale to take home.

• The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will also perform at the Oregon Coast Aquarium’s Sea of Lights celebration on Saturday, Dec. 15, in Newport.
