The renowned Yachats Big Band will play at the Yachats Commons this Saturday, Aug. 24, in a benefit dance to help fund restoration of the historic Little Log Church and Museum.

The Little Log Church, which has been at the corner of West Third and Pontiac Streets for 90 years, has suffered from progressive deterioration over the years due to structural problems, dry rot and attacks from aggressive carpenter ants. Because repair is not a practical option, the Little Log Church Board, along with city representatives and professional consultants, agreed to remove the existing building and replace it with a structure of the same design.

All artifacts, furnishings, collections and valuable historical documents will be preserved and returned to the replicated building.

The popular Yachats Big Band has members who hail from Florence, Yachats, Newport and Toledo, who love playing the classic band music from the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s.

Saturday’s concert will run from 7 to 9 pm at 441 Hwy. 101.

Admission is by suggested donation of $5 per person. Tax deductible donations to the Friends of the Little Log Church and Museum will be most appreciated. Refreshments will be provided.
