The Artists' Studio Association in Lincoln City is playing with fire this month, selecting pyrographer Cynthia Longhat Adams as Artist of the Month for February.

Adams believes fire painting has significantly allowed her to find her way in art. She spent the past 10 years developing her skills to the point where she can create photo-realistic works. It is a slow process, working with a very low heat to layer up the burn on the wood before enhancing the image with ink and watercolors.

Adams, whose work has included scrimshaw, watercolor, pencil, and pen and ink, was first inspired by her mother. who showed her a small painting created by chewing the tip of a wooden toothpick into the form of a brush.

A showcase of Adams' works will be on display from 10 am to 5 pm daily at the Artists' Studio Association, 620 NE Hwy. 101.
