The One Night Delights series will continue this Wednesday, July 17, with “Game of Tiaras” taking to the stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
Written by celebrated playwright, novelist and former middle and high school teacher Don Zolidis, the play combines the gut-wrenching plot twists of a popular television series and the soul-numbing despair of a Shakespearean tragedy — all with a comic twist.
When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire among his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle and the Snow Queen-who-in-no-way-resembles-a-copyrighted-character, terrible tragedy ensues; a terrible, hilarious tragedy.
The reading is part of the ongoing One Night Delights reader’s theatre series presented by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and four local theater companies. All proceeds support an ongoing fundraising effort to renovate the David Ogden Stiers Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
The performance will start at 7 pm at 777 W Olive Street.
Tickets, $15 plus ticketing fees, are available by calling 541-265-ARTS, in person at the box office or online at www.coastarts.org. All audience members will also be treated to a special dessert treat of “Fire and Ice” cupcakes.
• The One Night Delights series continues on August 21, with a reading of the musical “The Black Tulip,” written by Jacob and Brian Hanna and adapted by the Alexandre Dumas novel of same name.
