ASTORIA — Have you ever wanted to fish with a fly you tied yourself?

An upcoming class at the Barbey Maritime Center is a rare opportunity to learn the basics of fly tying from renowned local expert Henry Hoffman, who has more than 60 years of experience.

The class will be held 10 a.m. to noon on the first three Saturdays in November: the 3rd, 10th and 17th.

Volunteers from Rainland Fly Casters will also be present, and class participants will receive a free one-year membership to the club. An excellent and detailed book on Northwest fly patterns will also be available for $10.

The cost of the class is $45 for Columbia River Maritime Museum members, $55 for nonmembers.
