Runner-up: KLMY Clammy 99.7 FM

Honorable mention: KRKZ Hits 94.3

As of April, KMUN, Coast Community Radio will have been serving up tunes, news and shows to the North Coast community for 36 years.

Changes are ahead, however. The station recently launched a three-year plan to replace station equipment, a move that will allow programmers to offer more call-in style radio shows and solidify the station’s ability to stay on air during an emergency.

The station also plans to expand its coverage into Tillamook and offer more area-specific content. Coast Community Radio has entered into a partnership with a group in Bay City and will provide equipment and training in an effort to better serve listeners farther down the coast.

“The station has had a strong identity since it was started,” said station manager Graham Nystrom. He believes the improvements, rather than altering that identity, will enhance the programs and services already available.

In the coming years, Nystrom hopes to continue to find ways to “open these doors to community access.”
