ASTORIA — In 2015, the Clatsop Community College Art Department announced that the campus art gallery would officially be named the Royal Nebeker Gallery in honor of a former longterm faculty member who had an immeasurable impact at the college and in the community.

On Thursday, May 17, the sign at the entrance that displays the gallery’s name will be dedicated during the Art Student Show reception. The event will include speakers from the college and Nebeker’s family in attendance.

The reception starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.

For more than three decades, Royal Nebeker served as a teacher, colleague, mentor and role model. He dedicated his life to teaching, and showed by example the importance of the arts in all aspects of life. His presence will be felt in the Art Department for generations to come.
