ASTORIA — New York jazz pianist Chris Parker returns to KALA at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

The show features Parker’s original compositions of Latin, funk and modern jazz. His tunes light up the room with bright and vigorous arrangements and inspired musical themes.

Known throughout the North Coast as a beloved former instructor at Clatsop Community College, Parker is a longtime professor of music and head of jazz studies at SUNY Orange College in New York.

Parker composes for everything from small jazz groups and chamber ensembles to full symphony orchestra.

For this performance, Parker lines up top-notch players from the Portland area; John Nastos on alto and soprano sax, Kevin Dietz on bass and Adam Carlson on drums.

KALA is at 1017 Marine Drive in Astoria. There will be a full bar. Only people ages 16 and older may attend.

Tickets are $16. Advance tickets are available online at libertyastoria.showare.com. Pick-up will call tickets will be at KALA at the time of the show.
