OCEAN PARK — Local author Jan Bono will host a release party for the fifth book in her Sylvia Avery mystery series from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center, 21603 Pacific Highway in Ocean Park.

During the event, Bono will sign copies of the book.

“Oyster Spat” is set on the Long Beach Peninsula and tells the story of a feud between two oystermen who work on Willapa Bay. The story covers themes including environmental issues, tideland ownership and burrowing shrimp control. The novel is considered a “cozy,” which means it doesn’t include graphic violence, obscene language or explicit sex scenes.

“What it does have is an amateur sleuth who works with the police department in a small town, a quirky cast of supporting characters and quite a bit of humor,” Bono said in a press release.

“Oyster Spat” follows Bono’s other titles, “Bottom Feeders,” “Starfish,” “Crab Bait” and “Hook, Line and Sinker.” All five books will be available at the signing.

Participants will be expected to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
