The Gospel of Trees

Author Apricot Irving will read from her memoir “The Gospel of Trees” on Saturday.

MANZANITA — The Manzanita Writers’ Series will present author Apricot Irving at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Irving will read from her memoir, “The Gospel of Trees,” in the Hoffman Center for the Arts, 594 Laneda Ave. Admission is $7 per person.

Using her parents’ journals and her own, Irving’s memoir tells her story of growing up as a missionary’s daughter in Haiti. The novel also focuses on colonization in Haiti.

The memoir was the winner of the 2019 Sarah Winnemucca Award for Creative Nonfiction. Irving’s work has also been featured by This American Life and the 2019 anthology “Best American Science & Nature Writing.”

Before Irving’s presentation, she’ll teach a writing workshop on point of view in memoir. The workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration costs $50 per person. Online registration is available at hoffmanarts.org.
