SEAVIEW — The Sou’wester Lodge’s Art Trail Gallery is featuring work by Dirk Sweringen until July 18. The art is viewable from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at the gallery, 3728 J. Place.

The gallery is free to visit. Visitors are expected to wear face coverings and follow social distancing guidelines.

Sweringen’s photography will be featured. During his career, he helped found the Axiom Centre for the Arts in England. He directed a photography program and regularly showcased emerging and established British photographers.

Sweringen, who was born in Washington state, returned in the late 1980s while researching his family history. Many of his photographs relate to his research.

His family settled in Seaview in 1996. He took over running his parents’ business and opened the English Nursery. He was involved in many activities, including acting as a board member for the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum and helping run the Music in the Gardens annual event.

Sweringen died in January. Memorial donations can be made to Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum.
